Gentle Collapse is the acoustic project of Joey Caughey. Two project identities live inside the same name: Gentle Collapse (solo, stripped down) and Gentle Collapse & The Stillness (full band, cinematic).

Stories about a life lived and in reflection.

The solo work is for the rooms it was written in — close-mic'd guitar, a voice that doesn't try to be larger than it is, and the small natural noises that come with playing a song in a place where nobody's listening yet. The band work is for the rooms it was written for — full arrangements, slower gravity, more weight in the spaces between the notes. The same songs sometimes appear in both forms; what changes is the room around them.

The songs are written in quiet rooms and on long roads. The recordings are made the same way — close to the source, no more than the song needs.

There's a discipline in restraint that the project tries to keep. Nothing is added because it could be. Reverb is used like a window — sparingly, and only when it points somewhere. A song's job is to leave room for the listener to put themselves inside it, and the production tries not to interrupt that work.

Underneath both projects is a slow attention to what's actually happening: the way relationships shift without ever announcing it, the small dignity of staying in your own life when you've been treated like a draft, the rooms we leave the light on in long after anyone needs us to. The music doesn't argue with any of that. It just tries to tell the truth, and to make the truth a place worth standing inside.

Both exist in the same silence.
